Just got back with my G4 from my dealer (who is top notch btw). Filled out the form from Polaris that I shared in this thread. My dealer was able to get a new 2018 propshaft, etc... authorized from Polaris. Had it installed today and Voila...no more rattling. Problem solved.

I asked my dealer why so many people are having issues with Polaris covering them and he just said it was persistence from the dealer's end as Polaris doesn't make it easy. He did note however, if the dealer suspects that you have caused damage somehow to induce or exacerbate the problem, Polaris tends not to fix them.

Finally, he did note that he has customers that have been persistence for 2 years (when warranty expired) and Polaris finally repaired their issue. He shared to just stay persistent if you know it is a Polaris defect and not something you did. Hope that helps....

Props to Sport Cycle in Rockingham NC. Classy bunch of fellas....Thanks Jeff, Chris, Keith & Pat
What’s your Polaris case number so I can get mine fixed? Polaris tells me they have no idea what you’re talking about and I need EVIDENCE. My warranty is almost up, I’ve not driven this General since a month after I bought it because of this. It’s been at the dealer for more than a month with no resolution. The dealer lied about installing a new shaft. I don’t need another minute of wasting my time so PLEASE do the right thing and help me. I can PM you my case, my Polaris support rep, whatever you need. The case number isn’t some top secret code but they aren’t rocket scientists either and cannot think for themselves. I thank you.

My dealer Just changed out the drive shafts in my 2017 ride command with 2018 shafts and new carrier bearing and the noise was gone. Just did a short test ride looks like problem solved. My dealer did an excellent job explaining the noise To Polaris and they approve to have the drive shafts replaced with the new 2018 shafts in less than two weeks new drive shafts installed great job. As another person said can now hear the radio.

I just purchased my 2017 General 4 about a week and a half ago. I noticed that I had the growl everyone has mentioned in this post. I looked under there this weekend and noticed that my 2017 came with the 2018 driveline you guys are saying you had installed to fix your issues. Any idea why mine is STILL making the noises even though I have the 2018 update?

Welcome to the forum and G4 ownership roamrocker! Great question, but not the post I wanted to read....I was hoping that everyone who has the new CV joints was telling us the growl/rattling noise was gone...:(

Thanks for the welcome and sorry to disappoint! I do see that others are having a front diff carrier bearing installed. Maybe this is what I am missing to fix the noise. But I would assume that if they did one update they would have done the other. Is there anyway to see if the front diff carrier was done from the outside? I'd assume not.

Stackedup, see if they will replace your front diff. Mine made the noise after the new 18 drive shaft and then.....all rattle was gone when the changed out the front differential too.

Yeah that's what the Mechanic told me but said polaris won't change it if it's not showing signs of being messed up like metal shavings. I threw a fit just to get this shaft and swore to them it was going to be the fix so now it's going to be hard to sell this new front diff.

Glad it worked for you. Hopefully i can get ours done next spring when my back "hopefully" is healed up from surgery # 5 1/2.
Will probably go the DuraClutch then too.

When I first took my 2017 in my Tech checked and found the bearing in the front gear case sloppy. Drained fluid and it had metallic shavings in it. They put a new front end in it. I drove it for 40 some miles and the noise was there again . Took it back in and my Tech pulled the prop shaft and drove it and than called me in to drive it. Noise was gone. He ordered a new prop shaft installed it and called me to tell me the noise was back. He then called Polaris. Polaris is sending him the new CV shafts to try as a final fix. I'm waiting on a call from him as I type this. Hoping the noise is gone cause I don't want to be wearing ear muffs! I've got awesome support through my dealer and their Tech. So far I must say, I will always go to these guys for my wants and needs!

The question is, how many generals are on the road now and how many have had this problem with the prop shaft/front diff? So far my 2017 has not had a problem at over 700 miles and it has a u-joint prop shaft. Maybe not all the prop shafts/ differentials come from the same manufacturer? Curious!

Got on the phone and called my dealership said bring it down we will see what we can get done under warranty taking it to them Thursday and hopefully get the rattle taken care of under warranty!

I sure hope this issue is put to rest cause I sure love this machine! I honestly can't get enough time in it. Hunting seasons coming and ice fishing soon after. Heck with this warmer weather I think the wife and I will still get a few quality rides in before the rut. Good luck everyone and thank your local service tech for all the extra work he has to do. He didn't build it but he sure is trying to fix it.
