Why would Polaris design the tie rod assembly where the tie rod is weaker than the tie rod end on the XP? That's what it looks like to me just doing a visual inspection of mine. God forbid but the part of the assembly you want to break if something happens is the tie rod end because it's relatively easy to replace. As of right now, if the tie rod breaks, you will need to replace the entire steering box assembly which the tie rods are part of. Am I missing something here or is there somewhere I can get the tie rod?
I haven't looked, but your saying that the tie rod end doesn't screw into the rod on the steering box? I would think there would have to be some sort of flexible link there.

I'm not certain but would imagine it would screw into the steering box somehow. The problem is if you want to purchase a tie rod for the XP you will need to purchase the the entire OEM steering box assembly (see link below). I'm not aware of any after market tie rods you can purchase for the XP......yet. If they ever become available I will purchase them for back ups. I've had a couple hard hits on my front wheels and the OEMs didn't bend to my surprise. Stiil, I would like to have a back up. I just can't find them anywhere except the OEM.

I'm with you on that! SATV is supposed to be rolling out a heavy duty kit pretty soon. I figure I'll get it when it happens and then use the stocks for spares on the trail.
Edit, I looked at that link and I see what your talking about, they don't have the actual rod numbered as a individual part.

Just saw something you might want to check into. Kryptonite has determined that the tie rods from the 2020 rzr turbo xp will work on the general XP. Apparently there are two diameter sizes and one is a perfect match

Kryptonite tie rods!! I just installed these on my 2019rc and i must say everything from shipping, packaging, customer service and quality are top notch!! Install was a breeze and the tie rod ends are greasable with zerk on top!! Check them out on the web!! I believe they are superior in quality to any i have seen. I did not go with the heim joint setup as i have had them on other machines, and while strong I think they are a high maintenance item for my style of riding.

Are these for the XP models? That what the OP was looking for.

I just ran across something, Rock Life offroad shows some tie rods listed for the General XP

Those look like some nice rods. You probably just caused me to spend some more money. Lol
cant figure out why they put that much of a funky bend at the end of the rod looks like a problem waiting to happen.

Sorry, don't mean to contribute to your delinquency and drag you down my path...lol, I placed an order for a set this morning! If the stocks end up being identical, then I'll carry on for a spare in the tool kit. It doesn't look like these will break, they look very heavy duty!

Two things:
Check out Shock Therapy Suspension Tuning. They have a new steering rack and tie-rods that look pretty substantial. Thinking I may have to have them for my General.

June of 2019 I had a rear axle fail at much the same location. Right where the axle threads ended and the hub splines began. Engineering wise, that location is tension only, so how could one pull apart an axle? Has to have been a tiny material defect prior to manufacture, or a tiny crack from the manufacturing process...that propagated and failed the axle.

I took it to my dealer for extended warranty coverage...never heard back. So like clutches I'm thinking the tie-rods and axles are "wear components" and not covered by warranty.

Probably best to buy aftermarket or just buy another Polaris and get back on the trails.

I've checked into the shock therapy racks and they don't list on for the XPs, Can't say I looked at the fitment for the regular General.

I just ordered these heavy duty tie rods thanks to Corbo1962's recommendation:

Note that the discription on the web site incorrectly references the VIN number. It should be model numbers G20GM and G20GX. I contacted the vendor about this error.

You’ll like them

I installed mine awhile back now and the fit was great. They are very heavy duty

I ordered the same Performance Bushings HD Tie Rods and recently installed them. They are very solid and well made, I don’t expect to have any issues with them. The install was easy and the fit is really good.

Also thanks Corbo for the jack stand and string tip for the alignment!

Kinda crazy how well it works, happy to share that idea!

Can anyone post a picture of these aftermarket tie rods on their general please. I put mine on it’s side going over a hill climb this weekend and I think when I was trying to turn into it to save it I bent my tie rod on my 2021 xp.

SuperATV has just purchased Assault Industry.
AI makes a good set of tie-rods. Made from 7075 aluminum. They use a heim joint at the Bearing Carrier end. It's got 5/8 X 18 left hand thread. The steering rack end uses a ball joint the end of which threads into the steering rack. In between is the "rod" it's 1" diameter.
Just bought a set to work with on the install of my new Shock Therapy steering rack. So I do have the straight dope!
