Broken secondary spring? Belt threads? Bound rollers/sliders

 

The belt looks fine. Not sure about the rollers or the spring

 

If you are talking about the secondary, I can recommend replacing it with a mother clutcher. I have over 20 hrs on mine at 8hr rides so far.

you need to take the secondary clutch off and dissassemble and inspect it. By the time you get a new spring and rollers and any other damaged parts you will be getting close to a motherclutcher price. Just for a new spring and rollers you are over a $100.

 

Secondary is very easy to take off, For disassembly you can make a spring compressor tool very easily (online). Just be careful when removing torx screws on back as they have loctite on them and can be stripped easily!

To avoid this, heat the screws up a bit right before you remove each one.
Reapply loctite when you reinstall them.

 

How many miles on your machine? I have about 4600mi. and clutches are still perfect. Cannot be overstated, Proper cleaning (blowing dust out often) and round rollers = longevity!!

 

I will let you know tomorrow of the miles on my general.

 

 

before you do this though throughly inspect the clutch mating surfaces where the rollers go. Mine were worn concave and the rollers would have been useless, which was the main reason I replaced it with the motherclutcher secondary. It also comes with rollers instead of the blocks.

 

Your primary is probably stuck...is it open all the way? If its actually the secondary you may just need some rollers.

Well I believe it is back up and running. She even go a little more pep it feels like. The rollers inside the secondary clutch were in perfect working order,but the square outer slides were a little worn out. So I replaced them. I did order a secondary clutch spring from EPI, but didn't put in because it was much longer and didn't have the locking tip at the bottom of the spring. Onto the primary everything inside of it was in great working order, but the finger weights were hosed. So I replaced them. Here are some pictures of them. Thank you too everyone that offered advice and help.

 

I’d still question the spider rollers….especially since it was only 2 of them.

 

If it starts again it will get completely torn down

 

Late to the party but I agree with papermaker on those rollers in the primary spider, the fiber bushings are probably shot and just scraping on the new weights but keep us posted!

 

I have a General xp1000 4 2021 with 8,000 miles and have replaced the secondary 4 times and the primary twice. I am not very impressed with Polaris build quality and even less impressed with their warranty. Hunterworks is the way to go, but even Todd at Hunterworks is perplexed by the clutch issues.

 

Before you complain about build quality.....

What do you do for preventative maintenance? What do you use the machine for?

 

Covid build era gremlins perhaps.

 

I replaced the original clutches with Dura Clutches at 1200 miles, rebuilt the primary at 10,000 miles because the weights were getting wavy and now am at 19,000 miles. I blow the clutches out 2 to 3 times a year; also on second belt. Maintenance is the key to longevity.
