The old hubs we used ATF…not sure how they work now.
I don't believe there is a need for hub fluid on this machine (12 sportsman 850). That stopped in the late 90's or early 00's. That's when the hubs used to individually lock for 4wd in the magnum series atv and possibly the first sportsman atvs. Now that's all controlled in the front diff... all the OP needs is tranny/rear end oil and front diff oil. Much like our generals...

The only thing that is the same in the drivetrain of the Sportsman 550XP/850XP is the front differential layout.
The crankshaft is front/rear aligned and the transmission and differential are independent units with a driveshaft for the rear differential which uses 80/90 gear oil (preferred) or the older Polaris fluid.

Right. But I'm saying is all he needs is front diff, rear diff and trans oil... he doesnt need "hub fluid"..

that's all I was getting at. I'm well aware of how the engine/trans layout is different...

I read a post, or article, on the Amsoil Blue Bag lube and how much success other have had with it.
So going to give it a shot.
Now to figure out who my local dealer is...

Thank you all. I ended up using the fully synthetic Castrol TransMax ATF for import vehicles - same i use in my tacoma trans back in the states. I ordered some DirectDrive fluid via amazon delivered to my home in the states and head back later this week. Put the quad in the container for storage until I return. I’ll probably grab everything i can think of in next two weeks until i head back down here. Thanks to all for input. This place has some amazing topography.

Angle Drive fluid "hub fluid" is what Polaris specifies for the rear differential in his Sportsman 850XP so yes he does need hub fluid if he is going by Polaris specs.. or the SAE gear oil alternative.
DD fluid, Demand Drive Fluid is for the front Hilliard unit differential. This is not "hub fluid".
AGL is for the transmission.
There seems to be some confusion in some of the posts with the different lubricants.

What I was getting at with my 2 previous comments for the OP's clarity was he didn't need "hub fluid" for his hubs. They plain and simply don't need anything, they're just a bearing/hub...

he needed whatever fluid needed for front diff, rear diff and transmission, whatever that may be....
