New General (Possibly)

Although I do not have confirmation on this at this time.
It appears that Polaris has created a separate model category for the General.
I’m trying to decipher the code at this time.
Any way, we have a new model coming, with its own catagory called Gen,
with model G22G.
It’s not listed as for the military.
It has:
Ride Command
Doors
Mirrors
Bed Rack
Roof
Center Console.

It's live now... honestly... not that impressed...
I don't understand why Polaris had to build a new vehicle line up. They could have built a NorthStar General or take the existing Ranger and make a "trail" version with better suspension and more horsepower . The General is due for a makeover since it the same body design since 2016. The UTV market is soft now so bad time to release a new unproven vehicle. I'll stay with my General.

It's alright($45k for the one I built quickly plus however much i would spend from the aftermarket) Would be better if it didn't have that stupid back cage , rops whatever it is called . Basically catering to the Overland Instagram phenomenon.

Honestly I think if they had built it on the 74" Pro R chassis then they really would have had something new and worth looking at. Might even been able to grab some Jeep market share.

Good heck you guys are hard to please. If they went 74" wide they would have lost a lot bigger crown I presume. You can get the XP Northstar with the dump bed.
I think it's pretty dang interesting. Will I be trading in? No, but if I was looking now like I was in 2020 I'd be impressed. Closed cab W/AC would be nice somedays but not sure I would like it all the time.

I think it looks pretty dang cool!
Pros: Enclosed cab, bigger bed than the general, bigger gas tank, more ground clearance, HVAC.
Cons: Expensive , heavy

I would love to have one, but not for what they are asking !

So you answered your own question. The general was due for a makeover. That's exactly what they did. Some say it's too similar to the General Xp, and others say it isn't. The amount of change they did make requires a new name. if they had called it the general, there would be confusion. so many other mfg's have done that, and then the faithful say it has not changed in 15 years. (Yamaha Apex)

The existing general could not get full HVAC, they could not get the proper doors to be worthy of the Northstar name. Why shoehorn all that goodness into the old chassis, when a new chassis could be designed around better storage, power windows, HVAC with a sub, the list goes on and on.

And for those that cry about the suspension, list of the number of XP owners that ever took the time to tune their shocks Compared to leaving them at the factory settings. The QS3 design works, and I love comparing them to my buddy with WE shocks that has not tuned them.

Keep in mind, this machine was not designed for us (as a whole, we are sold on General) but for those that want a Northstar, this is the animal. And for those that want a 2024 General, this may still be that animal. Nobody ever questioned if the General was coming back for 2024. My guess is no, but if so, it will be a very limited run with leftover parts. And the Xpedition will replace the line.

So looking at the site, one thing jumps out. It is not listed as a 2024 like the all-new RZR XP.

If this were truly a General replacement, don't you think it would be listed as a 2024. Also, there is no "Base" model. They seem to sell a lot of non-XP Generals. Are they willing to forgo that segment of the market?

I get ya, it's confusing for sure. They are not looking at getting at the budget crowd to start. They have generals to sell. Some dealers are already taking names on their allocations. But Polaris does list it on some sites as a 2024.

We will see how quickly they get them out, but the new RZR and Xpedition are supposed to be early release 2024 models. At $28.999, the most entry level Xpedition2 XP is not very entry level

The official press release from Polaris, "MINNEAPOLIS, MN (May 16, 2023) Polaris Off Road, the leader in off-road vehicle innovation, is once again driving the industry forward with a first-of-its-kind side-by-side platform – the all-new Polaris XPEDITION. The 2024 Polaris XPEDITION XP and ADV create an entirely new category of “adventure side-by-sides,” combining the all-terrain capabilities of traditional side-by-sides with comfort and cargo capabilities typically associated with overlanding at the highest level. "

QS3 shocks suck. Took them off of my General and put on Fox RC2's and ST springs right after I got it

Yup, those are better shocks. But for 90% of consumers that never touch their shocks, the QS3's work and give them just enough adjustment that they can feel a "seat of the pants" difference. Most will agree that the Walker Evans on the XP's are better shocks. But most owners will never touch the adjustment, and take advantage of what they can do. But they sure will bitch about how their Xp rides like a lumber wagon instead of learning how to adjust them. Where as a QS3 owner will at least try the 3 settings.

Well, I'm a percussionist, so I usually tune my stuff to Tick-Boom-Pop-Crash!
I didn't think any of that would be good on the General, so I borrowed my bass player brother's digital tuner and got it to G Major. 🤘😝
