General 1000 Rev and Speed Issue

372 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Johnny 7
Hey everyone. Having a weird problem where my machines does not allow me to rev beyond 6k rpm when I put my foot down (H). As soon as I try to give it the beans it reaches 6.5-7k rpms, cuts power, goes down to 6k rpms, and a whining noise can be heard from the passenger seat. It feels like an rpm restrictor even though I never installed one. It just simply does not want to accelerate. I can still reach top speeds as long as I slowly take it there with low rpms, but no acceleration whatsoever. Please help!!

Sounds like it could be the Spider nut on your main clutch but usually when that backs off you can't get over 45-50 mph. Could be something else too.
What year and model General do you have?

Normally with a spider nut issue isn't it that your over revving the motor and at 40-50 mph max?

In this case the OP is under revving the motor and at 40-50 mph...

To me it sounds more electrical or a clutch issue that's putting too much load on the motor. Which is then not allowing it to rev fully out...

Yes, bad spider and it gives you high rpm's and 40-50 mph.
Maybe just starting to come loose.
Could be something completely different also.

Hey Johnny, I imagine it has to do with clutching. Its a 2020 XP 1000 4 Seater
Another thing that you can check is all your grounds, on battery and solenoid and frame.
Electrical Gremlins are known to happen to these toys and can cause some weird things to happen.
Good luck and let us know when you have it fixed.
