looks like there is no room in the Polaris stable for the General.
dealerships are told that 2023 is that last year of the General, can not order one anymore.
With the General doing so well in sales since the release thought they would keep the General and just add a new unit.
Prices on the new Xpedition will be alot more then the Generals, So expect to drop some serious cash.
Alot of cool features on the new Xpedition I noticed, A/c, 5-bolt pattern hubs, gear driven trans, New designed motor,
glass windows. plus alot more. debating on ordering one. will wait until our dealership gets one in.

These manufacturers are getting to a point where they are pricing the hard working man out of the market.
Boats have already gotten there. Went to the RV/Boat show last spring and was stunned to see a pontoon boat north of $100K. A pontoon boat. Now it was a nice one, but pontoons used to be the "cheap" option in boats.
The economy we are currently in is purpose designed to make the "people" poor and reliant on government.

The only way to fix it and return to what was, is to remove the corrupt entities orchestrating it.

If it's a replacement for the General then I hope everyone likes the excess weight. Even the entry level 2 door Expedition weights almost 500 pounds more than my 2019 General deluxe.

Looking at the Xpedition on the web. Indeed the Ultimate comes with Heater/AC, Ride command and locking doors and power windows...
Can't believe it doesn't come with the four cylinder engine?
The one advantage over a Jeep...is the fully independent suspension.

@Pirate But it is only "fully" independent if the sway bars are removed. I don't think anyone who will load it up heavy and possibly add a roof tent will be running without sway bars.

If I had to choose between the Xpedition NorthStar or a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, I would go with the Jeep all day long.

They assured me the General would not be discontinued. It is still a very popular machine and a great price point and entry for the Sport/Utility market. I mess with the guy that does their social media all the time, and we have a pretty good relationship. He knows who I am and my position at SATV. He's been a good resource and tells me everything he's allowed to tell me.

They are like Arctic Cat in the way that they will keep making them till they run low on parts, then release the Xpedition Sport. Pretty safe business practice that has been done for years.

Would it have made you feel better if they had just named the new xpedition, General? As it is giving so many people all the things you are asking for. And no, once again, they will never release the most basic models the first year. The goal is to sell out each and every high priced loaded machine to the early adopters with money. It not only gets the product off to a good start, they want to set the tone that this is what these machines cost. And I would bet money, they sell out their allocations quickly.

The other fact is it is marketing flop, to keep making improvements, let alone major changes to a machine line without changing the name. Consumers do not put value on the changes, and the perception is that the line is stagnant.

Ask Yamaha about the nearly 20 year run of the RX1/Apex. One name change in all those years, with major advancements and improvements. But with a run that long, those that never owned one or two generations would ever even think it changed. The worldwide perception was that Yamaha quit R&D and never changed it. Which is 100% false.

Polaris rode the General name hard and put it away wet. It's time for it to go away, as much as we love it. People will learn to love a Sub 2000lb 62" wide Xpedition 4 Sport when it comes out and will realize that the bigger engine and larger fuel tank they were asking for is right there.

I could be wrong, as Polaris has done the same with the Ranger nameplate. But if you compare a current Ranger Xp to one from just a few years ago, you will be blown away by how much better they are.

The name doesn't bother me, and I will definitely still go check out an XPedition XP. I just love how the General looks, how comfortable it is. Everyone has different wants of their machine based on how they use it. I would like a bit more power and fuel capacity, others really want HVAC. The XPedition gives a lot of all of those things, to the point that I think it probably is a different part of the market. I don't really like the looks of it from pictures, but hey that could change when I see it/drive it in person. I am not writing it off, but I also hope if the General does stick around they continue to improve it as well. I can appreciate that it sounds like Polaris has been listening, and did try to incorporate a lot of the asks in their new offering, you just can't expect it to hit the bullseye for everyone, but again this is based off a few photos and a couple of videos on the internet.

100% agree.

And to all those wants, it gets to a point when it has to change. You can't physically put a larger fuel tank where a smaller one once existed, if there is no space to put it. You can't put on roll up windows in a space that can't occupy the glass. You can't put on doors that can occupy glass, unless you change the shape of the cage etc. You can't change the shape of the cage without changing the looks.

The only one thing that could have been done may have been the 115hp xpedition engine in the same space. And for all of us that love the looks of the general, there are just as many or more that want a freshen up. Imagine how old your truck looks when the next gen comes out. Love it or hate it, folks will gravitate towards the latest model. It is the reason old Generals hold their value, most new buyers cannot differentiate it from a 2023. So yes, Polaris is overdue to retire the general in it's present form for market purposes.

Good business sense tells me, they called General 2.0 the xpedition.

To help make your point I usually hate every Chevy/GMC body style when they first come out but they eventually grow on me :D My AT4 is now easily my favorite truck I have ever owned and I think it is the best looking!

And my first SxS was a 2017 570-4 Ranger, so the 2022 General was a big jump and still pretty new for me, but as my kid gets older and we do even more with it, and considering how much fun we already have with it, I am happy to invest more if it fits how we use it. We are probably a different slice of the pie anyway because 90% or our driving is on the road. Oklahoma allowing them to be made street legal definitely shifted a large part of what we do with ours!

And if they did add a bigger gas thank they would probably make the oil filter even harder to reach, and then I would just be grumpy all over again :D

That's a question that needs to be answered.... Did they put in a trap door like the RZR's for the **** oil filter?

Just like Victory motorcycles.... When Polaris took over Indian I was told dont worry the Victory line isnt going away,,, a few months later they are gone. Its all driven by the dollar and not so much by owner loyalty. Ill be keeping my General, but I hope that Polaris still makes parts for them. When they dropped the Victory they quit parts also. We will see!

Biggest difference is Victory was a completely separate line and Indian was an aquisition which shared no common components with other Polaris products. Where the General is just a model of the Polaris off road line which shares common parts and was designed and MFG'd in house. If it stops being made, it won't disappear parts wise. Like all the other Polaris products that are no longer around. Indian and Victory are bad examples.
